U.S. Pipe Valve & Hydrant water distribution products have been available for well over 100 years, with the first such hydrant manufactured in 1896 in East Orange, New Jersey by A.P. Smith Manufacturing Company.
In 1966, a predecessor of United States Pipe and Foundry Company, LLC purchased the hydrant division of A.P. Smith, and, in 1970, relocated the New Jersey operations to Chattanooga, TN. In 2005, Walter Industries, Inc., the owner of U.S. Pipe, acquired Mueller Co. In 2006, Walter Industries spun-off Mueller Water Products, Inc., which included Mueller Co., U.S. Pipe and other related businesses and assets, including all U.S. Pipe-branded valves and hydrants.
In 2012, Mueller Water Products divested U.S. Pipe but retained U.S. Pipe Valve and Hydrant, LLC along with the rights to all water distribution valves and hydrants branded Smith, Sentinel®, USP, U.S. Pipe and Metropolitan®.
Today, U.S. Pipe Valve and Hydrant, LLC manufactures all its hydrants at a plant located in Albertville, AL and all its valves at a plant located in Chattanooga, TN.
